Successful telecom agents and channel partners will be the first to suggest that they lead a decent life. Get a bunch of good customers on 3-year term contracts with a solid carrier or two and it's "Hello, mailbox money!"
Certainly there's the "dark side" of only getting paid so long as the carrier decides they want to keep paying you with little recourse. The money thing aside, the next most frustrating thing about being an agent is not being able to get carriers to craft the "perfect service bundle" for bigger multi-location deals that you just know you can sell if the carrier's product team would just cooperate a bit more.
With just a few exceptions, most providers rarely deviate from the services they've officially rolled out because doing so adversely affects "margin control".
So what's a clever agent or partner to do when they need to "cherry pick" different carriers to create the perfect bundle for a larger multi-location end-user voice, Internet and data opportunity?
